杭州白马湖景区位于杭州市钱塘江南岸滨江的南部地区 ， 西至长江路、北至白马湖路、东至区界、南至傅家峙、塘子堰 ， 总面积1.3平方公里 。
On the south bank of the Qiantang River is the Binjiang District, in the south of which lies the Baima Lake scenic spot. The Baima Lake scenic spot covers an area of 1.3 square kilometers in total, starting from the regional boundary on the east to the Changjiang Road on the West, from the Baima Road on the north to the Fujia Shi and Tangzi Yan on the south.

Baima Lake is named after a white horse in the local tale.
The tale tells that Zhou Ju of Han Dinasty rode a white horse wandering around in this area, so fascinated by the scenic that he never left and became the local patron god.
Another tale about Baima Lake echoes down as it being the battlefield of Fuchai, the King of Wu in the end of the Spring and Autumn Period in Chinese history. In Baima Lake, Fuchai beat Goujian, the king of Yue, who was besieged in Fujiashi, thus the Baima Lake is also named as Paima Lake with the meaning of lining up troops in Chinese language.
