explain英 [ksplen] 美 [ksplen] vt.& vi.讲授 ， 说明
vt.解释…的原因 ， 辩护vi.解释 ， 说明 ， 辩护
第三人称单数： explains 现在分词： explaining 过去式： explained 过去分词： explained 名词：explaination
1. 表现“说明” ， 通常不接双宾语；若语义上须要这类构造 ， 可以改用 explain sth to sb构造 。如：
请把这条规矩给我们说明一下 。
误：Please explain us this rule.
正：Please explain this rule to us.
若其中的 sth 较长或较庞杂（比如是不定式或从句） ， 也可以用explain to sb sth 。如：
He explained to us why he was late. 他给我们说明了他迟到的原因 。
I'll explain to you why I like it.
Don't sign anything until your solicitor has explained the contract to you
在律师向你说明清晰合同之前 ， 不要签订任何东西 。
The teacher explained the rules to the children.
老师向孩子们解释规矩 。
It was difficult to explain the problem to beginners.
对初学者说明这个问题很难 。
2. explain to sb that/ explain that
I'm going to have to explain to them that I can't pay them.
我将不得不向他们说明我资源网不能付钱给他们 。
I explained that an ambulance would be coming soon.

Alex explained that his car had broken down.

3. explain how 从句

4. explain wh-从句/ explained to Sb wh-
He explained who each person in the photo was.
他对比片里的人一一作了介绍 。
She explained to them what to do in an emergency.
她向他们解释了紧迫情形下应采用的行为 。
Well, that doesn't explain why you didn't phone.
嗳 ， 那不是你不打电话的理由 。

6. explain后接反身代词作宾语 ， 有两个意思 。如：
(1) 表现把自己的意思表达清晰 。如：
Could you explain yourself a bit more? 你能把意思说得更清晰点吗?
Could you explain yourself a little more─I didn't understand.
请把你的意思说得更清晰一点——我还不明确 。
(2) 表现对自己的行动进行说明 。如；
I really don't see why I should have to explain myself to you.
我真不明确我为什么非要向你说明我的行动不可 。
Late again, Smi资源网th? I hope you can explain yourself! 又迟到了 ， 史密斯?我愿望你能解释一下原因！
