Also, one of the biggest problems most developed economies face at the moment is economic decline due to reduced birth rate and increased longevity and poor wage growth leading to income inequality. To sustain economic growth and to pay for an aging population (average age in the population is increasing with time and real wages have fallen), you need a steady supply of kids moving into the workforce and earning good wages. For more young workers, the country needs to produce more by encouraging pregnancy or import them and their families from outside the country. The government also needs to incentivize them to work by providing good returns for their efforts. The "free" market alone has failed to deal with income inequality and stagnant and falling wages (arguably, reducing wage expenses is what the free market will try to do) and so the government will also need to step in in some form to improve support the work force (increased minimum wage, universal income, tax wealth, cap top executive raises/pay, increased investigation and prosecution of tax avoidance starting with the richest not the poorest, universal health, dental and pharmaceutical coverage....).
