2014年索契冬季奥运会 (2014 The winter Olympics in Sochi)即第22届冬季奥林匹克运动会，简称"索契冬奥会" ，将于2014年2月7日-2月23日在俄罗斯联邦索契市举行。索契奥运会设15个大 项，98小项，共88个国家参与，这也是俄罗斯历史上第一次举办冬季奥运会。
为了纪念此次俄史上首次冬季奥运会，俄罗斯中央银行特别发行了索契冬奥会纪念钞， 沿袭了我国2008年开创的发行奥运纪念钞的传统， 是俄罗斯第一枚奥运纪念钞，世界第二轮首枚奥运纪念钞，冬季奥运会首枚纪念钞。 该纪念钞开创两大"第一次":俄罗斯独立以来第一次发行纪念钞，同时也是当代卢布纸币第一次采用双面直立式构图。这是俄罗斯银行发行的首版奥运纪念钞，纸币图案首次设计为竖版。

2014年索契冬季奥运会纪念钞 是俄罗斯发行的首枚奥运纪念钞，以蓝色为主色调，纸币图案设计为竖版，纪念钞的正面为滑雪板运动员造型，背面为奥运场馆和幻想的火鸟。
受益于俄罗斯强大的防伪原创力，本次索契冬奥会纪念钞上，使用SPARK光彩光变油墨、MVC变色龙等高端防伪元素。最令人关注的，是纪念钞上的开窗技术，这种俄罗斯独创性的纸币开窗技术第一次在俄罗斯的法定钞票中使用。
