再之后你就应该开始走上翻寻学生反馈的漫漫长路（可以试试 http://niche.com），还有各种渠道去联系该校在校生／毕业生多问问。当然这方面还是有相当的技巧的，比如如何获取你想要的信息，如何获取你需要但是你不知道你需要的信息，总之，提问要有艺术。这方面的内容我在我的选校workshop里还有更多普及，感兴趣的可以私我。
02选校时把所有信息整理进一张表格
这一步相当有必要，因为如之前所说，选校是经常会折腾几个月，所以每做一步研究，就把信息整理起来，可以使你日后的整体比较筛选方便很多。如下给个我学生的栗子：

要确保你整理进了所有相关信息，比如说家人对各院校的评价，在校学长姐的反馈，申请要求，deadline等。整理到20个学校左右的时候，就可以开始做筛选了，一般来说我们推荐 20% 的学校属于 reach 范畴，50% 的学校属于 match 范畴，30% 的学校属于保底 (safety) 范畴。当然要筛到这一步背后一定需要更加大量的研究支持。
基本上学生们会申请10所以下的学校，但如果你还付得起申请费，那就多申一所是一所。当然 Common App 申请的便利是一方面，另一方面来说基数越大，中奖概率越大的道理也不用我多说——尤其对于reach来说，我们称这种战略shot gunning，非常好用——不过底线是无论如何保底校都是必须要有的。
以上几步虽然只是整个申请过程的冰山一角，但仍然是非常好的起跑线。

总结，如上所述，留学选校费时费力，但你在自己身上花这笔功夫是绝对绝对必需的。你的大学生活应当是美好的，同时也更应当是能够引领你走向你想要的人生的，这是你的权利

Finding the right school “fit” is extremely important. Not only will the university be your home for two or more years, but the classes you take and the people you meet will greatly impact your future. I mention this because so many of my clients rely almost exclusively on school/program ranking and fail to consider other important factors in their decision, such as research/internship opportunities, access to professors, networking (faculty and friends), and potential for happiness. If you are not happy with the school you’ve chosen, you statistically have a much lower chance of being a successful student.
I’ll be honest, finding the right school for an individual is the most time consuming aspect of the application process. Doing it correctly means continually exploring yourself (needs, desires, goals, etc.) as well as your educational opportunities. Your list of match, reach, and safety schools will change, and that’s great.
Finding the right school is also confusing, especially as an international applicant who is unfamiliar with U.S institutions and expectations. Because of this, an independent counselor can be beneficial to you - in both helping you find the right school as well as navigate the application process. That said, here are two important activities I guide my clients through to help them find the perfect school.
1. Self and family assessment. Where you attend school is usually a family affair, and you need to be consider the perspectives of the involved parties. I have all of my clients go through a 4-step process. Here is a screenshot of the final step, which will show you the criteria you need to consider when choosing a school. Rate all of these characteristics on a 0-5 scale.

When you are done, you should have a good idea of what’s important to you in a school. You will then be in a good position to start researching your options. There are lots of ways to do this, but I recommend starting with the school websites. Keep in mind that these schools are trying to sell their institutions to you, so they’ll be very compelling, but they also offer a wealth of information regarding their programming, expectations, campus life, etc. From there you should read student reviews (see http://niche.com) and contact current/recent alumni to get an unsolicited perspective. 2. As you research your schools, put the information in a spreadsheet for easy viewing at a later date. Here’s an image of the one I use with clients:

Make sure to include ALL relevant data, such as what your family thinks of each schools, what current students say, application requirements, due dates, etc. Once you have 20 or so schools in your spreadsheet, you should start narrowing it down until you have roughly 20% reach, 50% match, and 30% safety schools. This means conducting even more (thorough) research.
Most students apply to less than 10 schools, but if you’re comfortable paying the application fees to more institutions, feel free to apply to more. Largely because of the ease of applying through the Common App (for undergraduate admissions), a trend called “shotgunning” has been gaining in popularity. The rationale is that by applying to a large number of schools, you have a better chance of getting into one - especially a reach school. In my opinion, shotgunning is a fine strategy so long as you don’t exclude your safeties.
As I mentioned, finding the right school is a time consuming and confusing process; however, it’s imperative that you invest in yourself and spend the requisite time and effort. You deserve to have a university experience that enjoy and sets you up for success.

5. Robert Gordon University
