蒂娜·特纳出生在美国田纳西州，十几岁时就开始唱歌，18岁时作为替补演员加入了艾克·特纳的演出团队 。仅仅两年时间，蒂娜·特纳就成为表演舞台上的焦点和明星 。与艾克结婚后，1960年，他们夫妇二人合作以一曲“A Fool in Love”打入了排行榜，整个60年代她们在排行榜上的成绩相当不错 。1971年发行的“Proud Mary”不负厚望成为排行榜第四名的金曲，并且可以算作艾克&蒂娜组合的代表曲目 。但是，这一切都被艾克与日俱增失去理智的行为摧毁了，蒂娜3年后离开了他 。
1975年，蒂娜用她在“The Who”乐队电影版本的Tommy中饰演的角色来庆祝自己重获自由 。电影中她演唱了“The Acid Queen”，短暂的表演为这部电影增色不少 。此后将近10年中，蒂娜·特纳好像消失了一般 。令人惊讶的是，1983年蒂娜的重新出现是受邀参加了制作人BEF为“Heaven 17”组合重新制作“The Temptations”组合的单曲“Ball of Confusion”的演唱 。同年，蒂娜与Capitol唱片公司签约 。转年初她的首支单曲“Let’s Stay Together”进入排行榜前30名 。第二支单曲“What’s Love Got to Do”成为当年最热门的金曲，连续3周蝉联排行榜冠军 。蒂娜的“Private Dancer”专辑中多首歌曲是排行榜前十名的金曲 。1985年蒂娜出演了第二个电影角色，她演唱的电影主题曲“We Don’t Need Another Hero”取得了排行榜第二名的好成绩,并获得了当年的格莱美最佳流行女歌手 。她的另一首金曲是1986年发行的“Typical Male”，这之后蒂娜虽然偶尔会有一些歌曲进入排行榜，也会有一些销量不错的专辑发行，像“Foreign Affair”(1989年)， “Wildest Dreams”(1996年)和“Twenty Four Seven”(2000年) 但必须承认的是蒂娜的歌唱事业颠峰已经过去 。
